Classes
CrossFit
Our CrossFit Classes are one hour long group sessions designed to get you in the best shape of your life. Each class is coached by at least one of our qualified instructors and involves a group warm up, strength or skill development work and a WOD (Workout Of the Day). The WOD is a high intensity workout using a mix of functional movements and lasting anything from 5 to 25 minutes. Everyone in the class trains together and your exercises and weights are scaled based on your current ability in order to give you a challenging and rewarding workout. We encourage everyone to record their progress so over time they can see the vast improvements in their fitness, strength and body composition.
Open Gym
If you have completed our Intro course you can come and use the facilities for your own training during the Open Gym sessions. We understand that everyone has their own personal goals and so our Open Gym sessions are available to supplement your class training with some other specific work. The Open Gym sessions are commonly used for catching up on class workouts that have been missed, practising new techniques learned in the classes, organising your own workouts with friends, improving mobility, and developing strength. These are uncoached sessions but there will always be a qualified coach present.
Speciality Classes
CrossFit Members receive access to all of our Speciality classes as part of their membership package. We generally recommend members have a minimum of 3-6 months of regular CrossFit training under their belt before looking to add any speciality classes into their training routine.
Barbell Club
CrossFit Leeds Barbell Club was set up to meet the increasing demands by individuals to get more focussed coaching time and quality programming on their Weightlifting.
Weightlifting is an Olympic sport consisting of the two barbell lifts, Snatch and Clean & Jerk, which are the ultimate test of explosive power and technical proficiency. Our classes are technique orientated, and will cover the two main lifts and their variations, including assistance movements and plenty of heavy squatting and pulling. The sessions will develop your proficiency in Olympic Weightlifting as well as improving your all round strength, speed and power. These classes also provide a great addition for anyone looking to improve their competitive CrossFit.
We are a British Weight Lifting affiliated gym and all of our Barbell Club Coaches are British Weight Lifting qualified. Our Head Coach is BWL Level 2 coach Sam Wild who has a wealth of Weightlifting coaching experience and an enormous amount of passion for the sport. Sam is responsible for the Barbell Club programme, many of the coached classes and the overall structure of the Barbell Club sessions.
Strength
For those that are looking to further increase their all round strength or muscle mass these classes provide a progressive programme that is designed to work alongside our CrossFit classes to promote continuous strength gains even for the more experienced athlete. The classes focus primarily on the big compound lifts including squats, deadlifts, presses and rows as well as heavy carries, pushes and pulls which all utilise large muscle groups and multiple joints to allow maximal loads to be moved. You will also perform a range of accessory exercises using a wide range of strength training equipment to develop more specific areas of strength, offset muscular imbalances, and bullet-proof your body from injury.
Gymnastics
Our specialist gymnastics classes focus on development of the strength, flexibility and skill required to master a wide range of body weight exercises. Programmed by our Head Gymnastics Coach Alex Heslop, these sessions will provide you with appropriate coaching, skills and drills to develop technical mastery in your gymnastics. Each class is an hour long and provides skill development on a specific movement as well as gymnastics conditioning to improve your strength and positions. You can expect to work on a range of movements including Handstand variations, Rope Climbs, Muscle Ups and other Ring Skills, Pull Ups and a lot of midline strengthening. Your development in the gymnastics classes will transfer across to all your other fitness endeavours.
Endurance
Programmed by our Head Endurance Coach Lucy Hack, our Endurance Classes will take your cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance to the next level. If you're looking to build your engine and improve performance in longer events such as 10Ks, triathlons or Obstacle Course Races these classes are perfect for you. They're also a great way to shift body fat or simply build an unstoppable engine to complement your CrossFit training. The classes are largely centred around a strong mix of Running, Rowing, Assault Bike and Ski-Erg utilising longer duration training as well as faster paced intervals. You can also expect body weight strength exercises such as pull ups, press ups and core work as well as non-technical resistance based exercises all thrown in the mix to help build the muscular endurance and mental strength to allow your body to keep pushing through the toughest of workouts or tests of fitness.
Engine
Turn the music up and get strapped in for a 60 minute class that will take you through warm up and a main course of intervals utilising varying durations, distances and intensities. Think spin class on the Concept2 Row, Ski or Bike erg! Superb workout for improving cardiovascular fitness, endurance and power development.
Kettlebells
Classes consist of a variety of kettlebell and body weight movements and techniques aimed at building your strength and muscular endurance. The basic kettlebell movements, such as the swing, snatch, and the clean and jerk, engage the entire body at once and help to build functional strength predominantly in the legs, shoulders and lower back. You will also be coached through movements such as the Turkish Get Up, Windmills and Farmers Walk which are excellent for developing strength and stability in the shoulders and hips.
